Little Dragons Day Nursery: Our finalist project for CIAT’s 2022 Awards!

Spatial Future have been shortlisted for the CIAT Award for Excellence in Architectural Technology | Small to medium for our work on Little Dragons Day Nursery! As an award that recognises excellence in global Architectural Technology, we are extremely pleased to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award.

We were asked to transform an old, disused church into a beautiful nursery that inspired and encouraged children’s learning and development. There were many elements of the church that needed to be refurbished, however we tried to keep the overall beauty and aesthetic of the church throughout the building as much as we could.

The gothic windows were given a charming glazed look and extra protection; a new mezzanine promoted the idea of interaction with the children through bright, colourful features. Although we had a challenge with designing the nursery in a conservation area, we worked alongside the Parish council and we were able to overcome this to produce a beautiful day centre to aid children’s learning.

Neil McLeod, Owner of Little Dragons Day Nursery, shared his experience of the project with us. “Spatial Future translated our ideas into several fantastic design options for our brand-new Children’s Day Nursery. They fulfilled every aspect of the brief and maximised floor areas to create truly flexible and inspiring learning space within the confines of a 125-year-old church building.

“It is arguable that their significant contribution was fundamental to the overall success of the project. Finalising the design and gaining planning permission was highly professional.”

A parent of a child attending the nursery has also commented that “The nursery, a refurbished church, is absolutely stunningly spotless. The attention to detail is second to none from the lower levelled bannister for the little ones to use whilst on the stairs, to the cute little beds for them to nap in.”

To be shortlisted for this amazing award with a project we are proud to have worked on has been a great opportunity for everyone here at Spatial Future. Good luck to all finalists!
