Brooklands
Warwickshire
A brief for a modernist villa-style detached dwelling evolved to incorporate vernacular materials and local planning policy. Sweeping timber-clad overhangs accentuate the two sliding masses; one in black brickwork, the other in contrasting white render. The specified brickwork shares the same name as the next village along from the site and is provided by a manufacturer based locally for over 200 years.
The two storey element is made minimal and set back from the road to maintain the observed building line while the ground floor is concealed behind retained hedgerow. The sunken roof bridging the two masses has a series of rooflights that progressively pull visitors from the entrance through to the primary living space which includes a picture window framing a cherished cherry tree.
